PNG PM Marape Asks God to Replace Him if He Blocks National Progress

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape has asked God to remove him from office if he is a hindrance to the nation’s development, urging divine guidance to appoint a more capable leader. The statement was made during the early morning National Repentance Day service at Sir John Guise Stadium.

Marape directly addressed the nation’s leadership, particularly the small percentage of public servants and politicians consuming a large portion of the national budget, urging them to seek forgiveness and dedicate themselves to the country. “If you and I are truly in love with our country, say sorry today and give your life to God for the service of this nation,” he said.

Reiterating the day’s theme of repentance, reconciliation, and national reset, Marape emphasized that transformation must start with personal accountability and extend to families, communities, and public offices. He called for honesty, humility, and transparency in all aspects of governance.

The Prime Minister also formally revoked the corruption curse he had declared years ago, telling Ps Joseph Walters: “I withdraw the curse against corruption that I made seven years ago.”

Marape’s speech highlighted the importance of leadership integrity and the nation’s commitment to growth as Papua New Guinea approaches its 50th year of independence.
