PNG Authorities explain reopening of Ramu NICO Mine

Papua New Guinea Mineral Resources Authority today explained that it granted the permission for the Ramu Nico Mine to resume operations because the company has rectified satisfactorily critical areas of concern regarding the slurry spill.

One major one being the issue of adequate bunding around major tanks and greater capacity sumps to retain all overflow from tanks and storm water through the processing plant.

When the slurry spill occurred on the 24th of August 2019, MRA inspectors investigated the spill and identified that 16 defects had contributed to the slurry spillage, and asked the company to rectify.
