Resource Center aims to boost women Business in PNG
Women in PNG continue to face legal and cultural challenges to engage in the business sector but thanks to advocacy groups like PNG Women’s Business Resource Centre (WBRC), women can now venture in to the business sector with confidence.
WBRC is an initiative by the Centre for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) with the mission to create an entrepreneurial ecosystem for women in Papua New Guinea.
Margaret Aila, the country’s Program Manager for WBRC said they provide workshops, networking and mentorship program for women to equip them to play an important role in the political and economic life of PNG.
“We normally run weekly programs and these are Motivational on Monday, self-defence training on Tuesdays, Websites-Wednesday and Financial-Friday where we invite speakers from different walks of life to speak to the women, said Mrs Aila.”
‘’With the programs that we have lined up, it is generating a lot of interest and we are seeing the membership number slowly increasing’’.
All these training are free for both members and non-members with the purpose to create an entrepreneurial ecosystem for as many women as possible.
Ruth Akia, a participant said she has learnt a lot despite joining WBRC for only 2 weeks. She said WBRC is the only women empowering organisation that she knew of that offers free workshops and training and she is very pleased with the initiate. PNGFM
