Dame Meg Taylor appointed to Every Woman Every Child High Level Advisory Group

Dame Meg Taylor, Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, this week was appointed by the United Nations Secretary General to the Every Woman Every Child High Level Advisory Group.

The Group will provide leadership and inspire action for women’s, children’s and adolescent’s health as the world begins working towards implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

“If we are to transform the world then we must ensure an environment for future generations that prioritises health and well-being,” said Dame Meg. “Healthy women, children and adolescents are a foundation for prosperous communities and sustainable development within those communities. Everyone should have the opportunity to achieve their full potential by living healthy and worthwhile lives”.

The High Level Group will provide advice to the UN Secretary General and regularly report on progress, key challenges and make recommendations on important issues including accountability, financing and implementation of the Every Woman Every Child Initiative and the recently launched Global Strategy for Women’s, Children and Adolescent’s Health.

“I believe this is vitally important work and I stand ready to receive and share the thoughts and ideas of people, communities and countries across the Pacific. I will depend on assistance from key Council of Regional Organisations in the Pacific agencies, and in fact I have already been assured by SPCs Director General Dr. Colin Tukuitonga, that they stand ready to offer their technical advice and support.”

Every Woman Every Child is a movement focused on driving action to address the considerable health challenges facing women, children and adolescents around the world.
