Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe arrives in Port Moresby

The leader of the world’s third biggest economy was also accompanied by a very high level Cabinet team of Ministers, vice ministers, members of Parliament, Japan’s heads of missions in the Asia Pacific region, senior public servants and 40 top journalists from across Japan.
Among the 270 are 20 chief executive officers, managing directors, chairmen and executives of businesses and multi-billion kina companies that are operating and who have business interests in PNG.
The business delegation include the CEO, MD and chairman of Chiyoda Corporation, JGC Corporation, JX Nippon Oil and Gas Exploration Corporation, Kiyomura Corporation, Konoike Construction, Kowa Lumber Company Limited, Kyokuyo C. Limited, Japan Construction, Marubeni Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation, Osaka Gas Co. Ltd Sojitz Corporation, Sumitomo Forestry Co. Ltd, Taiheyo Cement Corporation, Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro) and Pacific Islands Centre (PIC).
A very high-level team of security officiers from the Japanese Defence Force, Police and government also accompanied Mr Abe.
They were received by Deputy Prime Minister Leo Dion, Foreign Minister Leo Dion, Events and Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko, NCD Governor Powes Parkop and many other government MPs and dignitaries.
PNG’s Ambassador to Japan Gabriel Dusava, acting Foreign Affairs Secretary Bill Dihm, Consul-General in Sydney Sumasi Singin and many other foreign diplomats and officials were also present.
Japan’s Ambassador to PNG Ambassador Hiroharu Iwasaki and his team was also present at the Jackson’s International Airport to receive Prime Minister Abe, his wife and team yesterday.
As soon as the plane touched down at the Jackson’s International VIP terminal a 19-gun salute welcomed the arrival of Mr Abe and his team.
He also inspected a guard of honour before rushing to Government House to pay a courtesy call on Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio.
He met with Prime Minister Peter O’Neill later in the evening and ended his day with a diner hosted by Mr O’Neill and wife Lynda.
The Japanese PM will fly to Wewak this morning and will be met by East Sepik Governor Sir Michael Somare and Lady Veronica.
