Solomon Islands Police in Makira-Ulawa Province investigate arson cases

Police in Makira-Ulawa Province are investigating two separate allegations of house burning, on 7 and 13 January 2018 at Taranirawo and Wakana Settlements, in West Wainoni area of the Province.

It is alleged that on 7 January 2018, a 26-year-old male set fire to his house at Taranirawo settlement after arguing with and attacking his wife.

It is further alleged that on 13 January 2018, a 40-year-old male set fire to his family house at Wakana settlement after a row with his brothers.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Makira-Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai says, “It is sad to learn of these incidents, as they happen between members of the same family.”

PPC Sitai adds: “Such family related issues should be resolved amicably between family members without having to resort to violence.”

“I appeal to family members involved in the two incidences to refrain from any further violence and allow the police to investigate the allegations.”
