PNG Kumuls Secure Global Sponsorship from Visa

Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) has secured a platinum partnership with Visa, the world’s leading digital payments company, in a three-year deal running from 2025 to 2028. The announcement was made in Port Moresby on Tuesday.

PNGRFL Chairman Sandis Tsaka hailed the sponsorship as historic, saying it was the first time a PNG sporting code had partnered with a multinational brand of Visa’s global standing. He added that the deal was a vote of confidence in the growth of rugby league, from its grassroots programs to its goal of joining the NRL in 2028.

“Rugby league is not just a sport in PNG — it’s a way of life and a platform for social progress,” Tsaka said. “This partnership with Visa strengthens our vision of building better people, better sport, and a better nation.”

Visa’s Country Manager for New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, Anthony Watson, said the sponsorship was about more than sport. “We are proud to stand with the Kumuls as they inspire unity and pride across the country,” he said. “With PNG’s push for digital inclusion, Visa sees an opportunity to contribute to real transformation.”

The Visa logo will appear on the right sleeve and shorts of the Kumuls jersey and training kit. The company will also support the team’s preparations for the 2026 Pacific Bowl Championships and Rugby League World Cup in Australia and PNG.
