Sponsor Newcrest applauds Double Header Victory of PNG Kumuls and Orchids
It was a memorable day for Newcrest Mining Limited in PNG as the naming rights sponsors for the PNG Kumuls vs Great Britain Rugby League Lions and the PNG Orchids vs the English Women’s Rugby League team on November 16, 2019 in Port Moresby.
The historic wins by both the PNG Kumuls and Orchids were witnessed by fans and supporters from all over PNG at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
The games were also televised around the world to international audiences in Britain, Australia and New Zealand.
Craig Jones, Newcrest Chief Operating Officer PNG attended the game, along with employees and business partners from Lihir who were selected to attend as Opinion Leaders of our safety culture program at Lihir called NewSafe.
“NewSafe is a safety transformation program which ensures we maintain our zero fatality record since the inception of the program”
Chris Jordaan, the General Manager of Operations on Lihir stated. “I am very proud to have the opportunity to share these historic victories here today with such fine examples of our Papua New Guinean workforce”.
During the half time breaks the Newcrest Lihir homegrown ‘Trupla Man, Trupla Meri’ anti-violence campaign messages were delivered and the Newcrest NewSafe Opinion leaders participated in the half time entertainment activities with spectators selected from the crowd.
Newcrest was delighted to be a sponsor and to have the opportunity to support teams such as the PNG Kumuls and Orchids on the international stage.
Newcrest welcomes our partnership with PNGRFL and the International Rugby League Federation in bringing international teams to PNG.
Both the Kumuls and the Orchids showed the world on Saturday, not only how good the PNG women and men players are, but how they play the game – in a respectful and professional way.
