PORT MORESBY NATURE PARK EDUCATION OFFICERS TRAINED TO ENCOURAGE STUDENT PARTICIPATION

The International Education Agency’s (IEA) Centre for Professional Development conducted a training session with Port Moresby Nature Park’s Education Officers to explore different ways to encourage active student participation during school visits.

The one-day training consisted of the Education Officers identifying the challenges they have during school visits and the best ways they can approach each situation, particularly student behavior and interaction.

Port Moresby Nature Park’s Life Sciences Manager Ishimu Bebe thanked the IEA adding that this training was timely for his education team.

“Student management strategies and questioning stages were the challenges we had experienced over the years. With this training we are now prepared to implement what we have learnt today,” said Mr. Bebe.

IEA’s Centre for Professional Development School Advisor Joanna de Beer said this training was a first of its kind and they were delighted to assist the Nature Park in improving their teaching techniques.

She added that it is expected from this training that Education Officers will now be equipped with practical and evidence-based strategies to support the delivery of high-quality educational tours of Nature Park.

“We hope that it is the beginning of a strong partnership between IEA and Port Moresby Nature Park in providing quality and holistic education for the young people of Papua New Guinea,” said Ms. de Beer.
