PNG Deputy PM attends World Bank meeting

Papua New Guinea Deputy Prime Minister, Charles Abel, pictured, is in Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia, for the 2018 World Bank and International Monetary Fund annual general meetings.
These meetings are held outside of Washington once every three years.
Abel attended the roundtable of early adopters of the Human Capital Project as one of 27 countries.
He expressed PNG’s condolences to Indonesia for the recent tsumami disaster.
Abel spoke of the cross-cutting issue of rapid population growth and its impacts on maternal and child health, macro pressures on government financing and the environment in developing countries.
He spoke of PNG’s efforts in investments into education and health while acknowledging the concerns around childhood stunting.
Abel thanked the World Bank for the ongoing support to Papua New Guinea and the Pacific.
He made interventions at the Pacific constituency meeting, participated in a panel of experts on lessons from the Australian economic experience yesterday and chaired the Commonwealth members of the World Bank meeting yesterday.
He will return to Port Moresby in time to host the Apec finance ministers’ meeting next week.
