PNG Designer to showcase Fashion label in London, UK
Papua New Guinea’s very own established fashion designer Sarah Haoda Todd will represent the country this month at the London Pacific Fashion Week.
For the second time, Ms Todd will be showcasing her fashion label “PNGian Kala”,on the runway in London after successfully debuting it last year.
“It is a great honor to be selected to showcase my collection at the 2018 London Pacific Fashion collective amongst the crème de la crème of fashion in the region,” she said.
“I hope to leverage the opportunities presented to promote our country’s multifaceted cultures and heritage-inspired designs that are captured on each of my garments.”
Ms Todd further stated that she had hoped to pave way for other upcoming local fashion designers to also showcase their collections there in the future.
“I hope my going to this runway opens markets for our products in that part of the world too.”
Ana Lavekau, Founder and Creative Director of London Pacific Fashion Week, invited Ms Todd once again to showcase her collection this year and described her PNGian Kala label as an ‘absolute showstopper’.
This year, Ms Todd will not be going alone as she will be accompanied by fellow fashion designer and owner of AA Tribal label, Anna Amos, and Angau Angel model, Alang Isaac. These PNG women in fashion will be joined by other top designers in the region including Shannon Brett (Australia), Bou Fenua (Tonga), Cecelia Peterson Keil (Samoa), Rossie Semisi Emberson (Fiji), Pania Greenaway (New Zealand), Forkleaf Projecy (Australia),Frances Do’oro (Solomon Islands), Leuila and Joseph Loane (American Samoa), and others.
Meanwhile, Ms Todd had been working hard to secure the much needed funds to enable the small PNG contingent to travel to London.
“I would like to sincerely thank Imelda Agon, CEO of the National Gaming and Control Board and her management and staff; and NCD Governor Powes Parkop for making this trip possible.”
