RED CROSS ALONG WITH CS TO CONDUCT MEDICAL TRAINING FOR CS STAFFS

The International Community of Red Cross in partnership with the Correctional Service is hosting a three day refresher training for their medical staffs.
The aim of the training is to make sure proper procedures and practices are conducted by health workers serving at the detention centres.
The workshop covers specific areas such as psychiatric treatment and care in the prison, gender issue and other related issues because many of the procedures and practice conducted by health workers don’t meet the prison health management standard and duty in the prison system.
PNG Correctional Service is very fortunate to have Detention Doctor Dr Hussein Muhammad- Shagar from ICRC Red Cross to come and take sessions on detainee in Detention treatment and care.
Dr Hussein said it’s important to have those health care workers exposed to such trainings to equip them for the challenges that they face in their institutions.
‘’Challenges are at the management level and to increase the standard that they are delivering at the detention centre at an international standard and this is the work of the ICRC.’’
However, Dr Hussein said the major challenge would be finance for the CS and that is where the department of health steps in. PNGFM
