Australia charity gives K20,000 to PNG Kokoda school

A VILLAGE situated along the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea  has another reason to celebrate this Anzac period.

The Hearts and Minds Foundation, A charity group based in Australia, recently revisited Manari village over the busy ANZAC period to deliver some very welcome news to the teachers, children and parents.

The foundation has committed K20,000 toward the Manari Elementary School.

“We walked the Kokoda Track last year with Alan Manning and South Sea Horizons, and as we came into Manari village, the porters and guides introduced us to their families, we instantly felt connected to the place.

We promised we would be back to support the village in any small way we could,” Greg Wallace, a founding member of the Hearts and Minds Foundation said.

Half of the donation will go towards helping with teachers’ wages and the other half will go toward paying for school levies.
