Solomon Islands Police in GP investigates allege rape of a young girl

Solomon Islands Police in Guadalcanal Province (GP) are investigating an alleged rape of an 18-year-old girl on the 8 April 2018 at Tenaru area in Central Guadalcanal. 

It is alleged that on 8 April 2018 at around 0730 – 0800am the girl was intending to travel to town when she was taken on board by a car at Henderson area to Tenaru area where she was allegedly raped by a passenger in the car.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander, Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent Ishmael Vunagi says, “My officers are investigating the matter after it was reported to Henderson Police Station.”

Superintendent Vunagi says, “I appeal to members of the community living in the Henderson and Tenaru areas to assist my officers with whatever information about the alleged incident.”

He adds: “The incident must be condemned in the strongest term as an unacceptable act.”

“My message to women and girls is to take extra care when travelling alone and be mindful whenever you intend to board any vehicle. It is safer to travel in public transport like buses where other female passengers also traveling,” says Supervising PPC Vunagi.
