Solomon Police Chief call for calm in Marau following death of victim during weekend incident

The Solomon Islands,  Provincial Police Commander ofGuadalcanal Province,  Superintendent Nixson Manetoga appeals for calm in communities within the Marau Sound area of East Guadalcanal following the death of a 40-year-old male victim during a wounding incident  at the weekend.
The victim passed away at the National Referral Hospital today 16 January 2018 where he was admitted after he was struck with an axe on the left side of his head during an incident at One Village in the Hatare area of Marau Sound.
Police in Guadalcanal Province have arrested a 22-year-old male suspect after the incident and has since been charged with murder. He is currently in police custody and will appear in the Honiara Central Magistrates Court in the next 14 days.
PPC Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent Manetoga says, “I call on both sides in the incident, especially people in One Village in the Hatare area of Marau Sound, to remain calm and allow police to investigate the incident.”
PPC Manetoga adds, “Currently my officers are on the ground to investigate the incident and monitor the situation for any possible retaliation from the side of the deceased.”
“We extend our sympathies and condolences to members of his family and relatives during this sad moment,” says Mr Manetoga.
PPC Manetoga further appeals to people at One Village and surrounding communities to assist police with their investigation into the incident which led to the death of the male person.
