Police in Solomon Islands arrest two suspects after alleged assault in Gizo

Police officers in Western Province, Solomon Islands have arrested two male suspects in connection with an incident where a group of boys allegedly stoned a two-tonne vehicle causing damage to the vehicle on Sunday 10th September 2017 at Niumanda Village, near Gizo town.
The vehicle owner was also allegedly assaulted as he got out of the vehicle to speak with the youth.
As the vehicle was travelling along the road the group of boys who were sitting at the village playing ground allegedly shot the vehicle causing damage to it.  The vehicle owner then got out of the vehicle and was approached by the young men and they allegedly attacked him causing injury to his jaw. The victim was admitted at the Gizo Hospital.
“The matter was reported to police and two suspects have been arrested and charged for alleged assault. Both suspects have been remanded in custody and will appear before the court within the next 14 days,” says Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu, PPC Western Province.
He added: “We are monitoring the situation to ensure no trouble flares up after the incident.”
“I want to remind both sides in the incident not to take the law into their own hands but let the police handle the issue,” says PPC Lenialu.
