A 27-year-old male who allegedly attacked a member of the Church of Melanesia Brotherhood (Tasiu) has surrendered himself to police in the Makira-Ulawa Province.

The man has since been formally charged with one count of unlawful wounding contrary to section 229 of Penal Code and released on bail to appear before Kirakira (Eastern) Magistrate Court on 10 October 2017.

The incident allegedly occurred on 20 August 2017, at the Rea coastal area, in the Weathercoast of Makira-Ulawa Province.

“I am pleased with the self-surrender and wish to thank people involved in the negotiation for the surrender of the man,” says Provincial Police Commander (PPC) of Makira-Ulawa Province, Peter Sitai.

“I also would like to call on the people of Makira-Ulawa Province and anyone who may be associated in one way or another with the Makira platform issue to allow the police carry out its investigation to any acts of breaking of the law,” says PPC Sitai.
