Fan Zone of Papua New Guinea 2016 to be launched

The football fans in Port Moresby can experience the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup tournament outside the stadiums through the Fan Zone that provides a unique opportunity for fans to celebrate women’s football and cheer their favourite teams.

The Local Organising Committee has set up a designated area at the Vision City amphitheatre that can hold up to 400 supporters to take part in fun and exciting activities – namely, the Mini Pitch setup.

PNG Football Association president, David Chung said on Match Days the Fan Zone will be streaming the games live on a giant LED screen. This will give the fans who are not able to watch the matches at the match venues the opportunity to join in the excitement.

“Besides the games we will have traditional dances, host fashion shows and dance competitions. There will also be food and beverage booths and our National Supporters will set up different games for the fans to win prizes. A central feature of the Fan Zone is our Mini Pitch where we are hosting three mini Live Your Goals Festivals with football skill sessions for girls and boys and much more,” Mr Chung said.

Beside the above, people can also enjoy the recently launched season 1 of Coke Studio with songs by PNG’s very own favourite musicians.

The idea behind the Fan Zone is to bring football to the people and introduce the beautiful game and its Commercial Affiliates to the general public.

The tournament’s Official Song will also be performed publicly for the first time at the Fan Zone Opening Ceremony.

The opening of the Fan Zone will take place on 12 November at 5pm at the outdoor amphitheatre area, Vision City Mega Mall where the PNG Football Association president, David Chung and a prominent FIFA representative will welcome all spectators.
