Looking at an update on the Manus Asylum Seeker Processing Centre, 361 refugees who have completed the Government’s Refugees Status Determination assessment in Manus have been offered resettlement in PNG. Minister Rimbink PATO confirmed that the resettlement of these refugees was the PNG Government’s initiative to assist Australia and stop the illegal smuggling of people. The PNG Govt under its recently passed settlement policy will be resettling the processed refugees in 5 Provinces. They are Lae, Port Moresby, Madang, Goroka and Kavieng. The Government has handpicked these provinces based on employment and settlement opportunities. And a delegation will be travelling to Lae next week to address the public on the Govt plans.
