HUNTERS utility Warren Glare missed out on a chance to play in the National Rugby League’s Under-20 competition after plans for a stint with the Cronulla Sharks fell through.
The 19-year-old was to have to have flown to Sydney before Christmas but according to Hunters coach Michael Marum, Glares’ manager was unable to secure the hooker’s accommodation as well as other contractual conditions with the Shire club.
“There were issues with accommodation and where they would put him up in Sydney.
Warren’s manager was supposed to settle that but nothing eventuated so we’ve kept Warren and he’ll continue his development under us,” Marum said.
PNGRFL chief executive officer Bob Cutmore said it was decided after Christmas that it would be better for Glare, who played six games for the Hunters in 2015, to focus on the 2016 ISC competition and try again in 2017.
Glare, who plays hooker and occasionally in the halves, was used by Marum at acting half as well as in the backrow and on the wing through the course of last season, with the former Lae Tigers’ speed and boot-lace tackling a feature in his debut year with the South Pacific Brewery-sponsored franchise.
