Morea star for the DIGICEL PNG Barramundis in huge win

After a heart-break loss the day before, the DIGICEL PNG Barramundis bounced back to thrash the Southern Force in the second match of the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) Premier League campaign at the Marrara Cricket Grounds #2 in Darwin yesterday.
Batting first, the DIGICEL PNG Barramundis posted another huge score, scoring 8/287 off their allotted 50 overs against the Southern Force.
Lega Siaka (63) and Assad Vala (25) once again made valuable contributions with the bat, but the star was Hanuabada’s all-rounder, Vani Vagi Morea.
After falling agonisingly short of a century the day before, Morea batted sensibly and posted an unbeaten century to guide the Barramundis to this huge score.
Morea’s 101 came off just 108 balls, featuring six boundaries and three massive sixes.
“Vani is in career best form at the moment. He has batted superbly over the past couple of days against very good bowling attacks,” said DIGICEL PNG Barramundis Captain, Jack Vare.
In reply, the Southern Force was no match for the DIGICEL PNG Barramundis bowling attack, being bowled out for 166 in less than 41 overs. Hiri Hiri (2/15), Charles Amini Jnr (2/19) and Nosiana Pokana (2/4) all took two (2) wickets for the Barramundis, while Bradley Davis (48) the only Force batsmen to make any real contribution with the bat.
“Scoring 300+ and 288 today shows how our batting can go from strength to strength in the 50overs format,” said Vare.
“We are trying a lot of new players like Riley (Hekure) who is opening with Lega. They've done well giving the boys great start at the top of the order both today and yesterday. Unfortunately, our middle order has let us down over the past couple of days but if we stick to a simple plan, spend time in the middle and bat our 50 overs, I am confident it will all click together. The boys have adapted very well to the conditions but there is still a lot of work to be done to improve on a number of areas,” said Vare.
The DICEL PNG Barramundis have a couple of days off, before taking on the NT Strike in another practice match on Wednesday 23rd September, before the SACA Premier League continues next weekend.
