Use of Herbal Medicines in PNG discussed by Experts yet again

Whilst thousands of people turn to use traditional and hebral medicines in the country, experts dicussions 'for' and 'against' the use of herbal medicnes continues.

A local Herbal Pharmacist is encouraging the government to recognize and assist locals who make herbal medicines in Papua New Guinea.

Francis Kassy said herbal treatments are a great alternative to medical drugs in the country because it has always been part of PNG’s culture and history.

However, Doctor Peter Olali from the Port Moresby General hospital, recently told the “NBC Government talk back show that the public must abstain from using herbal medicines, as they can be harmful.

He also encouraged local pharmacists to share their herbal medicines with pharmacists to do proper tests before they can be sold to the public.
