PNG Increasing usage of Off-Grid Solar lightig

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) a sister organization of World Bank Group new report shows that Papua New Guinea is leading in using off-grid solar lighting products compared to past years.

IFC's resident representative in PNG John Vivian says, Papua New Guinea has achieved dramatic growth accessing solar products with 60 percent of households mostly in rural areas.

In a press statement, Mr Vivian said solar lighting has replaced kerosene lamps in homes and candles which is good for people and the environment.

He said solar products sold in PNG is higher compared to solar markets in India, Nigeria, Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Meanwhile, acting managing director for PNG power limited Carolyn Blacklock said to achieve electrification in the country would require strong partnerships between public and private sector for effective electricity supply in the country.
