East New Britain to seek govt help for disaster relief

The East New Britain Provincial Executive Council has endorsed a submission seeking K98m for disaster relief in the province.

A special PEC was convened recently to ask this money from the national government for immediate aid towards communities badly affected by continuous heavy rain and flooding.

Deputy Governor Comas Bauk says after assessing the situation on the ground, the Provincial Disaster Committee will finalize a report to be attached with the funding submission.

Mr Bauk says the budgeted funds will go towards re-constructing infrastructure like roads and bridges, as well as setting up temporary care centres for the displaced people.

The submission would then be delivered to the Prime Minister by governor Nakikus Konga and and his Provincial Executive Council members.
