Four Fiji Navy officers sentenced

The four Fiji navy officers who caused the grounding of Fiji’s Naval Ship (RFNS) Kiro were sentenced this morning by the President of the court martial, Commander Netani Sukanaivalu, Fiji times reports.

Lieutenant Commander Saula Tuilevuka was sentenced with a severe reprimand which is a last warning and has also been fined to an amount which is equal to 28 days of his salary.

Lieutenant Samuela Cikaitoga was also sentenced with a severe reprimand as his rank has been dropped to sub lieutenant and he has been fined to an amount which is equal to 28 days of his salary.

Lieutenant Ben Salacakau and Ensign Mike Brown were sentenced with severe reprimand as well with a fine that is equal to 28 days of their salary.

All four navy officers were convicted of causing the wreck of RFNS Kiro at Belcher Reef on July 14, 2016.

President of the court martial, Commander Netani Sukanaivalu stated that the RFNS Kiro is no longer available to the Fiji Navy and that they are left with only one vessel.
