The second National Agriculture Summit is set to happen from July 17th -20th at the Lae International Hotel in Lae, Morobe Province.

Following on from the overwhelming success of the inaugural summit held in Port Moresby last year, the Organising Committee of the summit is pleased to announce that the summit has now become an annual event.

Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mr Bernard Maladina said this year’s summit will be bigger and better from last year and will rotate in each region annually.

“Over the years, the industry never had a proper platform to engage in meaningful dialogue between the private and the public sectors.

“Hence we came up with the idea of the summit to provide that avenue in an effort to proactively contribute to the development of government policies for this vital industry”, said Mr Maladina.

He said the theme “unlocking the power of agriculture for PNG” falls in line with the government’s aim to focus on the renewable sector, specifically in agriculture.

This year we are expecting a wide range of audience from agricultural cooperatives to SMEs, major agribusinesses, financiers and respective government departments and agencies.

“Today (Thursday June 14th), we also launch the website for the National Agriculture Summit. The website can be accessed using this address: www.agsummitpng.com

The website will provide all the information regarding the summit from registration, presentations, accommodation, exhibition booths and others.

Mr Maladina said the recommendations and the communique from the inaugural summit from last year is pending government’s endorsement and will be added onto the website as soon as it becomes available.
