Solomon Islands Police in Auki arrest and charge man on multiple traffic offences

Solomon Islands Police officers in Auki, Malaita Province have arrested and charged a 45-year-old man for multiple traffic offences after he was reported by several concerned people in Auki town that he was allegedly driving carelessly in the township on 10 March 2018.

“Upon receiving the report, my on duty shift officers responded and proceeded to locate the vehicle,” says Provincial Police Commander, Malaita Province, Superintendent Timothy Apaesi.

He adds: “The vehicle escaped upon seeing the police and my officers starting chasing him. The vehicle took off at a very high speed towards the Kwaibala Bridge and suddenly veered off the road. Police arrived at the scene but the other two passengers had already escaped. The driver was arrested and was found to be intoxicated.”

“I want to make a call on the other two suspects who escaped, to come forward to Auki Police Station,” says PPC Apaesi.

He adds: “I want to thank the public in Auki for their support in reporting the incident. I want to remind vehicle owners and drivers that it is illegal to use unlicensed and defective vehicles. Driving while under the influence of alcohol is also against the law. Remember that when you are driving under the influence of alcohol you are risking not only the lives of the road users but also yours and that of your passengers. People ignore the good advices and get into trouble and may regret it by the end of the day.”
