Male person wounded from an alleged sorcery dispute in Solomon Islands

Police in Malaita Province, Solomon Islands  have attended an incident where a 37-year-old male was allegedly wounded on 5 February 2018 at Namoluluka village in West Kwaio, in the Malaita Province.

It was alleged the incident occurred after an argument over suspicious sorcery. It is alleged a 30-year-old man attacked the victim with a weapon and wounded him.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Malaita Province, Superintendent Timothy Apaesi says, “The tense situation was brought under control after it was reported to police and we responded quickly."

PPC Apaesi adds: “I would like to thank both parties for the mutual understanding reached to stop the situation getting worse through traditional reconciliation and I encourage them to promote peaceful settlement to ensure the matter does not escalate."

Supervising PPC Apaesi says, "I want to encourage our people to use our traditional ways of resolving conflict among our people as they are effective as has been proven over the years. This is what is being encouraged in the National Crime Prevention Strategy."

He says, “I appeal to the alleged suspect in the incident to surrender to police and face the law.”
