New PNG Parliament Speaker, Job Pomat vows to remain impartial to all

Speaker Job Pomat has assured Parliament that he will be impartial to all.

Making his first address as Speaker (pictured right) after being sworn in Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae yesterday, Mr Pomot told MPs, irrespective of their votes, he would seek their confidence in him in the role that he said was an enormous task.

“Whether or not you voted for me to be elected as Speaker is not of paramount significance, but the processes and systems, through and by which, I have been elected surely and truly demonstrated the thriving but vibrant young democracy that we adopted some 40 years ago and continue to enjoy to this day,” he said.

“It is my humble prayer that as elected representatives we will continue to build and strengthen the democracy that we have embedded into our system of governance.

“It will surely be an enormous task and challenge for me to exercise impartiality, but I truly have no choice but to do that for the sake of fairness and in upholding the integrity of both my office and this honorable parliament.”

The Speaker hoped his tenure in the tenth Parliament would be constructive for all MPs to serve the national interest of the country. Post Courier
