PNG Air looking at PNG - Jayapura route

PNG Air in response to media enquires today announced that it is working to introduce direct flights between Mt Hagen and Jayapura in the Papua province of Indonesia by mid 2016.

PNG Air CEO Muralee Siva said: "We still need to do alot of work with the PNG and Indonesian government authorities to make this happen, but we see a direct link between the Highlands and Jayapura as being both a significant development for PNG Air and of great benefit to the people of the Highlands."

"Instead of having to go through Port Moresby to fly internationally, people from the Highlands would be able to take a direct flight for about an hour and be in an international city offering attractive opportunities for trade, business, shopping, tourism and even medical services."

"Jayapura then offers better connections to the rest of Indonesia, and from there provides many alternatives and ways to go to other international destinations via Jakarta," Mr Siva added.

"Regional international routes such as Mt Hagen/ Jayapura are a growing market, and PNG Air is in a strong position to serve that market with our fleet of Dash 8s and brand new ATR 72-600s, and network of connections we offer throughout PNG," said Mr Siva. Post Courier / ONEPNG
