New tool kit for gender based Violence

A newly Toolkit designed to guide and assist NGO’s and business houses to assess the cost of Gender Based Violence (GBV) in PNG was launched today by the Chairperson for the PNG Business Coalition for Women Lesieli Taviri and Australia’s Ambassador for Women and Girls Natasha Stott Despoja.
Ms Despoja said the cost and Impact of Gender Based Violence is something new in addressing this growing issue but business houses need to understand how much loss they are making when they continue to ignore violence in their respective organisations.
“Violence against women and children have many costs, there are costs in terms of social, community costs, individual costs, medical and legal costs and we don’t really talk about all these costs in an economic sense, so this is a ground breaking attempt to find out the economic impact of Gender Based Violence” said Ms Despoja.
Meanwhile, Mrs Taviri will be marketing the new Toolkit to Business Houses and NGO groups and she’s hoping that this new Toolkit will convince Business Houses to start addressing Gender Based Violence in their Organisations.
