'Women Arise" calls on government to address Police Brutality and Violence against Women

The Women Arise group and girls in the country have called on the Government and responsible organization to come out on action and strategies they have put in place to address the continuous Police Brutality and Violence against women, girls and children since receiving the National Haus Krai petition in 2013. They say police officers behaviors and mindset must change towards women as sexual objects. The group was concerned with the lack of action especially to do with the recent incident involving a young female who was forced to swallow condoms by police officers at the Boroko Police Station. A workshop will be held tomorrow in Port Moresby to collect ideas from women and girls in general before their next course of action can be taken.”This trend is going out of
control and we citizens must do rise up and act now to reverse or stop this trend” they said. Meanwhile, NCD Police Boss, Ben TURI says his men are still awaiting complaint from the victim of the condom incident before any further action can be taken on the 5 police officers involved in the incident. No arrests have been made so far.
