PNG urged to focus on Agriculture

FOCUS on the agriculture sector is the way forward for the country’s sustainable economic prosperity and growth, according to United Nation resident coordinator Roy Trivedy.
He revealed that to The National when  asked what the United Nation perspective was in regards to sustainable economic growth in Papua New Guinea after the extractive industry had been depleted.
Because more than 80 per cent of the population is supported and employed by the agriculture sector.
Trivedy said it was important that the agriculture sector be accorded the attention it deserved so that real development could reach ordinary Papua New Guineans.
He said agriculture-backed economies in the world flourished the same kind of social and economic benefits as big extractive industries.
