A Mining Executive charged with rape of a teenaged school girl

A senior executive of a mining company in Madang has been charged with the abduction and rape of a teenaged schoolgirl.
Madang provincial police commander Sylvester Kalaut could not be contacted but a Criminal Investigation Unit officer told The National that the man had arrived from Port Moresby two days ago and gave his mobile contact to the girl.
The Grade 9 student was picked up by the man near her home at around 4pm on Monday and taken to a place outside the town where he allegedly had sex with her.
According to the statement provided by the girl to police, the man promised the girl to take her to Port Moresby where she could continue her education and later study in the Philippines.
Police arrested the man when he was travelling with the girl in his vehicle.
The police officer said the man was charged with abduction and sexual penetration and should be appearing in court today. He said police officers  turned away relatives of the man who came to the police station to offer compensation, and to request police to release the accused.
“We will not accept compensation,” the police officer said.
“He will face the full force of the law.” The National/One PNG
