PNG exports record logs overseas

Forest Minister Douglas Tomuriesa, says Papua New Guinea exported a record volume of logs for the first time in years.
Last year's exports amounted to 3-point-8 million cubic metres of logs.
Mr Tomuriesa said PNG has become the biggest tropical log exporter in the world over the past two years.
He said the Asia Pacific Region is the main export destination for nearly 100-percent of the logs and wood products.
He said an increased connectivity and participation in the APEC Ministerial forum to be held later this year will enhance PNG's ability to secure and protect the country's markets as well as enable PNG to engage in APEC initiatives, like the increase in forest cover by 20-million hectares in the Asia Pacific region by 2020, to combat adverse effects of Climate Change.
