The pressure is on for the remaining six teams still standing with a chance to take home the prestigious Digicel Cup 2014 season title.
The Mendi Muruks and TNA Lions have been eliminated after losing in the Elimination Finals last weekend. It is now up to the remaining teams to strategies on their matches in the upcoming finals. No doubt, the boys have gone down hard on their preparations for a showdown worth watching.
Lae will play host to a double header in the semi-finals this weekend while minor premiers Lae Tigers and Agmark Gurias go on bye.
Hela Wigmen will go up against reigning premiers Port Moresby Vipers in their finals crusade followed on by Enga Mioks and Goroka Lahanis, all going down at the Lae Rugby League grounds.
PNGNRL General Manager, Hubert Warupi stated that due to spectator misbehaviour the Highlands venues have been put on temporary stop with matches relocated to Kokopo and Lae and quite possibly Port Moresby.
He also mentioned that Judiciary had reviewed reports arising from incidents last weekend and as such has issued the following Notice of Charges for misconduct and bringing game into disrepute.
Tim Lepa from the Enga Mioks was issued 1050 demerit points and a 10 match ban for a count of Grade 5 detrimental & contrary conduct charge. Nathan Anjo from Mioks as well was issued a similar penalty for Grade 5 detrimental & contrary conduct charge.
On the other hand, Wesa Tenza from the Kemele Hela Wigmen was issued a 15 match ban along with 1550 demerit points for Grade 5 dangerous throw & Grade 5 detrimental conduct.
The teams that were affected were asked to put in a response to the notice of charges by close of business today to be reviewed again by the judiciary.
This weekend will host the Semi-finals followed by the Preliminary Finals next week. PNG’s leading rugby league competition will officially wind up on August 24, 2014.
