Prime Minister Peter O’Neill arrived in the Marshall Islands capital Majuro this afternoon, two-and-a-half hours, before the official opening of the 44th Pacific Islands Forum.

The Falcon touched down at the Amata Kabua International Airport at about half-past-three.

P-N-G’s Roving Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Alexis Maino and P-N-G’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Peter Eafeare, were at the airport to meet the Prime Minister and his delegation.

Mr O’Neill is accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs Rimbink Pato and the Minister for National Planning and Monitoring, Charles Abel.

A small group of Papua New Guineans who live and work in the Marshall Islands, were also at the airport to greet the Prime Minister.

Rain has stopped and preparations are underway in earnest for the opening ceremony at the capital court yard or Meto, but several activities have been cancelled.

Leaders will not be carried by traditional canoes across the bay, but in a motorcade to the Meto, for the opening ceremony to start in just under two hours.
