PNG Opposition calls on Ombudsman to investigate Governments engagement of Chinese Company

The Opposition is calling on the Ombudsman to investigate the Government's engagement of a Chinese construction company, for several big projects in Papua New Guinea.

It's Deputy Leader, Sam Basil says, the China Railway Company has been blacklisted by the World Bank, because of past corrupt practices.

Mr. Basil alleges, the company, currently working on the 2015 Games Village, has caused the project cost to rise, well over 100-million Kina.

It claims, the company is a corporate friend of the Prime Minister, who is keeping quiet on the issue.

The company is also engaged to build the new City Hall in Port Moresby.
