SPORTS INCENTIVE CLARIFIED

PNG Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko says all individual PNG athletes who win Gold will get the Government incentive of K20,000.
Mr Tkatchenko says this also applies to every member of a team that wins Gold.
"From the recommendation of the PNG Olympic Committee, the Government put in a submission to NEC to approve the incentive program for our athletes on the basis that if a team won the Gold medal at the Pacific Games, each individual player will get that incentive."
Mr Tkatchenko says the NEC approved this idea 8 months before the Games as in incentive for the athletes.
The Sports Minister says it will also apply to athletes who win the silver and bronze medals.
"That incentive is to be used purposely for the factor of enhancing their ability to take them to the next level."
