PNG Police arrest former East Sepik Governor

The Police Fraud Squad has arrested former East Sepik Governor and Yangorru-Saussia M-P, Peter Wararu Waranaka, in Port Moresby today, for alleged misappropriation of public funds.

Mr. Waranaka is alleged to have misused and misappropriated a substantial amount of money, meant for the District, while an M-P.

His arrest, follows on from an independent Financial Investigation into the management and use of Yangorru-Saussia District Support Improvement Program Funds and District Support Grants, between January and June, last year.

After an investigation the Police fraud squad brought the former Youngoru Sausia MP into police headquarter at Konedobu for questioning. 

After an hour of heated questions he was then brought up to Boroko Police station where he was formally charged, and locked up at the Boroko Police cell. 

NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bawa says Mr Wararu Waranaka was charged with misuse and miss-appropriation of more than one-million kina meant for the district. 

" The allege allegation laid against him was basically dishonestly applying a sum of almost over a million belong to the electorate. So that was charge that he was laid with. He has been granted a bail."

Peter Wararu layer Abraham Kumbari confidently says these are allegations and he will batled it out in court. 

The former MP was released on a Ten- thousand kina bail and he is expected to appear in court tomorrow or next week.
