Vanimo General Hospital to charge fees

The West Sepik Provincial Hospital may have to start charging fees again to patients getting specialized cares from doctors to make additional revenue to cater for the hospital's operation.
The Acting CEO, Mr. Alphones Yalim said they will come up with a decision on this when they sit for the last board meeting towards the end of this month.
He says the thought to re- introduce fees for specialized doctors’ services will cater for the additional revenue because the funding from the government is not enough to maintain operation each year.
Although, the government is adamant in providing free health care, Yalim said the K25million allocated funding for the hospital is not enough to purchase goods and services, plus medical drugs to treat patients. They are also considering imposing fees for the outpatient as well.
