Port Moresby Downtown Fake Bomb blast

A fake bomb blasts which sent shockwaves throughout Down Town Port Moresby has rooted fear and panic among the public this afternoon.

The detonation of of the fake bomb has forced people scurrying for cover in shops and along the streets.

NBC News confirms that the explosion was part of an emergency training conducted by members of the Papua New Guinea Defence Force and staff of the PNG Ports Corporation Limited.

PNG Ports Emergency Response Coordinator Romo Etep told NBC News, the emergency drill was carried out to test the emergency procedures of PNG Ports.

Mr Romo says members of the PNG Defence Force explosive unit were called in to set up the fake bomb which was just a part of the exercise.

The drill is focused on equipping staff with skills while handling explosives and when rescuing survivors during an emergency situation caused by fire or an explosion.
