PNG - Marshall Islands Air Service eyed

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and president of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Hilda Heine are expected to finalise an air service agreement when O’Neill arrives for the second Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA) Leaders Summit on Tuna next month.
The long-awaited agreement will pave the way for Air Niugini to include Majuro in its routes. With Air Niugini’s added service, passengers will have more direct routes to remote parts of the Pacific and Asia.
An added bonus of Air Niugini flights is that they bypass Australia, Guam and Honolulu airports that are a hurdle for many because of visa requirements.
In preparation for the signing, Jonathan Kidu and Simon Kaumi from the Departments of Foreign Affairs and Attorney-General travelled to Majuro for a preliminary signing of the documents earlier this month.
The two nations first discussed their common interest in establishing air service to the Marshall Islands over two years ago during the Forum Leaders Meeting in Port Moresby.
