Fiji Airways cancels flights to Samoa due to adverse weather

Fiji Airways has cancelled flights to Apia and onwards to Honolulu due to the current weather situation expected to affect Samoa today and Saturday.

The flights affected are FJ853 Nadi to Apia (09 Feb), FJ853 Apia to Honolulu (09 Feb), FJ852 Honolulu to Apia (09 Feb), FJ852 Apia to Nadi (10 Feb).

Samoa is bracing for high winds and heavy downpours over the weekend as three tropical depressions circle the Pacific region.

According to the Samoa Met Service, their primary focus is monitoring the Tropical Disturbance (TD07F) and potential hazards to Samoa over the next 24-48 hours.

The Service posted on its Facebook page that it "predicted to move toward Wallis and Futuna by this afternoon and intensify further as it nears Samoa by Saturday morning".

The service also advised that rainfall activity will continue to amplify with northwest winds expected to strengthen.

The public have been advised to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures, making sure they have the latest update on the weather.

New flight information will be announced once the weather has cleared sufficiently to enable safe operation of Fiji Airways flights to and from Apia. LoopSamoa
