NEW IRELAND EMBARKS ON INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAM

The New Ireland provincial government is embarking on a massive infrastructure roll out program starting this year.

Projects to be implemented will include major upgrading of the Kavieng Airport to town road, and upgrading of the Rawal, Sivasat and Mongol to Maiom roads.

Installations of Solar Street lights at Omo, Maiom, and Malie and Masahet Islands on Lihir and the completion of outstanding Ward Level Projects, funding continuation of the K3m Cocoa, Livestock, Fisheries and Coffee project and continuation of the Church & Government Partnership with K1m increase in the Budget allocation to K3.2m in 2018 from K2.2m per year.

Governor Sir Julius Chan said his government has invested big in the Islands and the whole of New Ireland, urging people to make full use of these opportunities rather than sitting back while foreigners come in and snatch these opportunities.

He's asked the people to look after the new roads, saying better roads will open up new opportunities, which will change their lifestyles and lift their living standards.
