Hayne backs Fiji NSW Cup bid

Fiji Bati rep Jarryd Hayne believes Fiji can achieve a lot through the NSW Cup rugby league competition.

Hayne, who will play his third Rugby League World Cup in a week's time, said Fiji had a lot to benefit from, if it was part of the NSW Cup competition.

"Look at Papua New Guinea, their development has grown leaps and bounds," Hayne said.

Having played the PNG Kumuls three times in his career, Hayne said the form and composure of the side during the Pacific Tri Nations at the ANZ Stadium last Saturday was the best he had seen.

"Fiji needs a competition like the NSW Cup.

"We already have the blueprint through Petero Civoniceva, we just needs the sponsorship support," he said.

"Fiji will be exposed in a big way, there is economic opportunity and it is easy to sell Fiji, a lot of people want to come and holiday here.

"That's premier league competition, a step lower than the NRL. Whatever we learn in NSW Cup, we also learn in NRL."

In addition, Fiji, Samoa and Tonga could have end of the year Tests to improve and promote the development of the sport.

"We could start something special, there is so much talent that just gets washed away," Hayne said in Nadi

Meanwhile, the national side continued its preparation for the Rugby League World Cup at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

Players will have a day off today before their final training session tomorrow.

They leave for Brisbane tomorrow evening.
