Refugees bid to prevent deportation from PNG fails

Attempts by 166 non-refugees on Manus Island, asking the court to prevent their deportation from PNG, has been refused by a three men Supreme Court ruling yesterday.

The transferees were processed and found to be non refugees, had sought an urgent interim injunction last week against the State and the Foreign Affairs and Immigration Minister Rimbink Pato from deporting them, but ensure they remain in the country while fighting their case in court.

Among other reasons they used is one alleging that the PNG Immigration had illegally carried out their processing without any legal basis, as the center was already declared illegal.
The Court in a majority ruling indicating that the PNG government had the right to conduct the processing, as they were under the care of PNG.
