Juffa to launch local " Northern Observer' newspaper

A local newspaper for the Oro Province will be launched in Popondetta by Governor Gary Juffa on  Wednesday this week.

“Northern Observer a community newspaper to inform and promote good governance in the province is an initiative of the Oro Provincial Government,” Juffa said.

“The monthly publication is aimed at informing the people on what is happening within the province and around the country and allow locals to have their say and contribute towards the development of Oro,” he said.

The newspaper is a new concept and will mainly focus on positive and development issues affecting the province.

He said despite the lack of adequate and consistent funding from the National Government, Oro Province will continue to promote positive activities with its minimal resources and the Northern Observer will serve as the medium.

“In fact the newspaper would have been launched in the beginning of the year or even last year but due to issues beyond our control, we had to do it around this time.

The paper will also publish for public information on funds received and funds used and projects delivered including achievements and constraints. It’s about informing the people about their money. It is the people’s paper and they can also contribute.” he said.

Juffa said the contents will carry a Oro Administration column on updates of reforms, kids’ corner, Didiman Page, Youth & women section, Church, Sports, champions of Oro, General Knowledge Q & A and general news among others.

He also appealed to public servants and local people in the rural areas to contribute news and information to this newspaper so that local content is truly captured.

“Apart from law and order issues, we want to promote our flora and fauna, our history and develop a well-informed community and people so they are fully aware of their own destiny.

We will promote local content in business investments in agriculture, forestry, fisheries and tourism. So far several tourism operators and companies involved in Oro have indicated interest in advertising in the paper.” he said.

He said the public was welcome to attend the launch today.
