19 PNG Defence Force navy certifie

Under the Australian Military funding, 19 Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) Navy soldiers have undergone 11 weeks course training in partnership with the Pacific Maritime Training College in Port Moresby (PMTC).

The soldiers graduated with certificate in Ship Power Generation and Ship Electrical Maintenance which according Mr Alobi Bomo the Director of training- PMTC, the training will help the PNG navy trainees on navy vessels as technical support staff assisting in the two fields that they have been certified with.

“PMTC in partnership with PNGDF are glad to give and support the soldiers in the training. Also, there would be new navy ships that the PNG Navy will be using soon in which PMTC is associating with PNGDF to start build and develop men power in the technical areas especially in the Defence Force electrical knowledge to cater for the new ships,” Mr Bomo added.

According to Commador Thomas Ponjom, under the Capacity building we are looking forward to retrench the older navy soldiers and replace with new young navy.

“We are looking forward to improve the technical marine skills and this training is one way we can build our marine skills,” Commander Ponjom said.

He added that the soldiers are now equipped with knowledge that can boost the defence force therefore must value they work and their skills.

“If you value your work, your efforts and work will be more meaningful,” said Ponjom.
