PNG Men's Soccer team receives boost for OFC Nations Cup tourney


The PNG Football National Men’s team received a timely boost from the National Government with K250, 000 and more from a fundraising dinner last night held on their behalf by the Rok Roks Supporters Club which was also launched last night.
Soccer heavyweights from Port Moresby and Lae along with OFC President David Chung, Petroleum and Energy Minister Honourable Ben Micah and corporate organisations, sponsors and staunch supporters of soccer in PNG and the current cream of PNG best Men’s Football team and National Coach Flemming Serritslev packed the Dynasty Restaurant in Port Moresby last night for the fundraiser.
Patron of the Rok Roks Club, Minister for Petroleum and Energy Ben Micah encouraged development of soccer from an early age so that PNG can become more competitive both domestically and internationally before announcing the K250, 000 in support for the national soccer team.
“I have been to two world cups, and in all my thirty years of coaching I have never seen a more humble and committed group of young men then the current team I am coaching and it is a total pleasure to be a mentor to these young men, and tonight with the dinner and support all we can do to say thank you to the people of this beautiful country is to do well in our performances and make you happy and proud”, said PNG Men’s National Coach Flemming Serritslev.
Thanks largely to the efforts of the Rokrok’s a strong national supporters club of soccer with Rokrok President Dr Miok Komolong, Chairman Joseph Eladona Jacks PNG also joined the team of sponsors by becoming the sole merchandisers of the PNG Men’s soccer team which puts the team in good stead for their first match against New Caledonia on Sunday at 4pm at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby on Sunday the 29th of May 2016.
